The 2018 Grommy Awards

We’re excited to announce the first-annual Grommy Awards!

What are the Grommy Awards? We’re glad you asked. The Grommies are a new initiative meant to celebrate those who’ve made a positive impact on others in the community.

Here’s how it works:

Grommr members are allowed to nominate another member who’s made a positive impact in their life. This could include things like lending a sympathetic ear in a time of need, helping them work through their sexuality, hosting an inclusive and welcoming meetup, or anything else that demonstrated kindness and community-mindedness.

The nominations will then be blinded (removing any identifying information) and members of our admin team will score each one. Once we have a shortlist of finalists, we’ll do some follow up to confirm the details of the nominations and announce our winners.

Each member can nominate a maximum of three people per award year.

The Grommies are NOT a popularity contest–they are a celebration of kindness in our community. There is no voting involved, and more nominations doesn’t mean more likely to win. Each nomination will be judged by our evaluators based on its specific merits, and blinded to ensure personal biases don’t interfere. So someone with 1 great nomination will easily win over someone with 50 mediocre nominations.

The goal of The Grommies is to acknowledge and celebrate people for helping others–and in doing so, inspire more people to do the same, more often.

Winners of the Grommy Award will receive a digital award image they can post on their profile and a full year of free GrommrXL.

The 2018 Grommy Award submissions are now open and will close on August 1st. Winners will be announced by September 1st.

If someone in this community has helped you, take a few minutes to nominate them!
